General Home Insurance Issues

Q: What will I get from my home insurance policy as standard?

A: You should always check the full details of your policy, as each one is slightly different. It will depend on how much the policy costs and what you get for free. Each insurance company has a different level of automatic starting cover.

Q: Will I have a choice of ways to pay?

A: Yes, most insurance companies now accept payment by direct debit, standing order, monthly credit card payment, one off credit card or debit card payment, and cheque.

Paying by direct debit will make it easier to budget, whereas paying the whole year's policy in advance may entitle you to a discount. Many companies also offer discounts for paying online. These payments are usually taken by credit or debit card.

Q: How do I renew my home insurance?

A: The insurer will send you a renewal notice detailing your premium for the next year of insurance approximately 4 weeks before your current policy expires. Before you go ahead, have a look at our list of insurers again to see if you can save money.
