Home insurance customers in Somerset have been warned to be vigilant by police after a distraction burglary in the area.

Police issued the warning after an elderly woman fell victim to a distraction burglary.

The disturbing incident has led police to urge residents to be wary of cold callers and advise not them to let people into their homes .

We are aware there were cold callers in the area that day selling dusters and cleaning products, and several people have been spoken to already, commented PC Julia Seymour from Taunton Police Station.

Meanwhile, university students were warned recently that home insurance should be top of their list of priorities.

A spokesperson for the Association of British insurers explained that this is because a lot of student areas have higher burglary rates.
