Home insurance customers will be interested to know that the government's new green strategy could help improve energy efficiency .
The Greener Homes Strategy is aiming to cut emissions from UK homes by 29 per cent by 2020 through better insulation and the installation of smart meters.
The strategy could also help to create 65,000 jobs in the green homes industry while people could see their energy bills cut by £380 a year.
Ed Miliband, energy and climate secretary, said: Making homes more energy efficient will help protect people from upward pressure on bills, tackle climate change, and make us less reliant on imported energy.
Housing minister John Healey added that a network of Green Show Homes would be displayed around the country to give people a better idea of the strategy aims and results.
As well as alleviating the impact on the environment, good insulation could also help prevent claims on home insurance policies .
The recent winter conditions resulted in many homeowners having to make claims after water pipes around properties burst, causing flooding .
