New research by a home insurance company has shown how older members of society are the most politically active now.
According to the study by RIAS, 36 per cent of over-50s think they are more politically active than they were when they were younger, while 47 per cent think they are more active than today's younger generation.
Among the most important issues to them are the environment and human rights and many are using the internet and social networking to do their campaigning.
Janet Connor, managing director at RIAS, said: The misconception that over 50s are not active social and financial contributors to society couldn't be further from the truth.
Not only are this generation the linchpin of their local communities, campaigning for issues they care about and believe in, they are using their knowledge, life experience and outlook to actively make a difference and promote peaceful change.
One home insurance consideration recently highlighted to older people is to make sure they check for identification from anyone ringing the doorbell with services.
