Home insurance customers have been told to look to public gardens and shows for inspiration for their own back yards.
Research by Ronseal has recently found that, while people spend an average of £982 a year on improvements inside their home, they only spend £100 on their garden, meaning they are rarely refreshed.
Garden designer Michelle Wake explained how, too often, it is easy to stick to traditional British garden designs.
She added: If people want to get ideas for what to do in their gardens, there are some really, really good magazines. Or they can get out and go to the shows - the RHS shows, or to all of the beautiful public gardens.
England has got some of the most beautiful gardens in the world, so there really is no excuse for lacking in inspiration - there are always some really beautiful gardens which are open to the public which you can go and visit.
Of course, anyone who has made improvements to their garden will want to make sure they keep in mind their home insurance policy when securing any valuables.
