Homeowners may be interested to know of some new developments at Fortis that help it take on new home insurance business.
The company has revealed that it has invested in some new technology from Business Insight that helps to predict risk.
Furthermore, it has licensed flood maps from JBA Consulting, to work out where insurance policies would need to take into account certain events.
Stephen Linklater, head of household underwriting at Fortis Insurance, said: As we continue to develop and grow our household proposition, it's important for us to maintain an accurate understanding of the high and low risk areas with location being the major rating factor in underwriting home insurance .
The Perils Insight product suite from Business Insight, combined with JBA's flood data, will be a valuable tool, giving us a deeper, more precise understanding of our risk exposure, further improving our pricing in areas where we have previously been unable to write business.
Some homeowners can often find that their premiums are higher if they live in areas where flooding is likely.
