Homeowners looking to add to the savings they may have made with their home insurance have been advised to look out for their annual energy statements.

The new statements will be sent by suppliers from tomorrow until December and will detail the customers' current energy plan, yearly consumption and expected bill for the next year.

Ann Robinson, head of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, pointed out that, by receiving annual statements, homeowners would be able to find savings and switch suppliers more easily.

She added: Consumers should treat these annual statements as an annual reminder to make sure they are paying the cheapest price for their gas and electricity .

People who did this regularly over the last 5 years saved themselves over £1,000 - this is not to be sniffed at and it would be great to now see more households following suit.

Meanwhile, individuals with valuables in their garden, such as sheds, were recently advised to make sure they are adequately covered by their home insurance policies .
