HomeLet is warning landlords that freezing temperatures could lead to expensive repair work on their properties .
The insurance provider claims the cold weather may mean that pricey repairs are needed to fix broken pipes and tanks.
As a consequence, landlords are being advised to upgrade their insurance policies and avoid having to pay for the cost of damages.
John Boyle, the managing director of HomeLet, believes it is imperative that landlords have an insurance policy which safeguards them against emergency problems.
He continued: We are undergoing the most prolonged spell of freezing we've had since December 1981 and this, combined with research from Which? revealing that nearly one in three new boilers breaks down within the first six years of operation, means that landlords can't afford to take the risk of being uninsured.
According to figures released by MS Home Insurance, this winter has seen a significant increase in the number of householders making emergency insurance claims .
