The Environment Agency (EA) has informed home insurance customers in Devon that it intends to build a new flood defence system in the area.
Construction of the new £8.4 million development in Shaldon and Ringmore will begin soon and the news will come as a welcome boost to home insurance holders.
The new construction has been specifically designed to provide protection to homes and businesses in the village, which is located at the mouth of the river Teign.
Gordon Trapmore, the EA Devon and Cornwall area flood risk manager, explained: "We identified the tidal flood risk and have worked closely with the local community to explain the effect an extreme flood would have on the village."
The EA has recently issued a series of flood warnings as the cold weather starts to thaw, BBC News reports.
Melting snow and rain has left some areas vulnerable to flood damage .
