Homeowners around the south-east of England may reconsider their home insurance policy after flood warnings for the future.
The Environment Agency has stated that 403,000 homes around the region are potentially at risk of flooding from rivers or seas as a result of climate change, while a total of 900,000 homes could be susceptible to any form of flooding.
Toby Willison, regional director of the Environment Agency for the south of England, wants people to prepare for the potential flooding.
He said: Forward planning and collective action will ensure the demands these place on our region's resources are managed in a way that allows future generations to benefit from the south-east's outstanding geography, prosperity and natural beauty.
As recent weather conditions have shown, flooding can have a devastating impact on properties, emphasising the need to have buildings and contents cover .
Sainsbury's Home Insurance recently reported that claims from water damage between mid-December and mid-January were over £35 million, partly as a result of burst pipes .
