Anyone looking to make a significant purchase during London Fashion Week is being urged to check their home insurance policy .
Financial research company Defaqto has reminded homeowners that their policy may only cover valuables up to a value of £1,500, meaning they need to notify their insurance companies to make sure they don't lose out in the case of damage or theft .
Among the tips that the company gives is to go through the entire house, itemising any valuable items, remembering that everything should be valued as if new.
Mike Powell, insurance analyst for Defaqto, said: Always look at the detail of your insurance policy to ensure you're properly covered.
The Post Office recently warned newlyweds that they risked being underinsured after their nuptials with extra gifts around the house .
In order to provide peace of mind, it has added ten per cent of extra cover for a month either side of a wedding for households where someone is getting married .
