A home insurance provider has warned Britons that expensive Valentines Day gifts may not be covered by their insurance policy .
According to recent research from Halifax, 47 per cent of people have not considered insuring their gifts against theft or loss, while 16 per cent have assumed items are already covered by their home insurance policy .
In addition to this, just 27 per cent of consumers know that their valuable jewellery is registered on their home contents policy .
David Rochester, head of underwriting for Halifax, warned Britons of the danger of becoming lost in the occasion.
He said: When planning a romantic proposal, insuring a valuable gift is not necessarily the first thing that springs to mind, so we are reminding people to make sure expensive jewellery is fully covered both inside and outside the home.
Meanwhile, Sheilas' Wheels home insurance also recently provided tips to both givers and receivers of Valentine's Day presents to protect their new items.
