Home insurance boost for Leeds customers

People looking for home insurance when they buy their new property have been boosted by a new offer from Leeds Building Society .

As part of their new range of two-year and five-year fixed rate mortgages, the lender is offering a discount for anyone who also takes out home insurance with them.

With all the mortgages on offer, a 0.24 per cent discount is included for purchasing the company's Homecover, which comes with free travel insurance for the policyholder and family, until April 2015.

Kim Rebecchi, Leeds Building Society's sales and marketing director, described it as a fantastic opportunity.

A survey by Nottingham Building Society recently found that many homeowners were choosing not to purchase buildings or contents cover as they sought to cut costs during the recession.

One in four homes had no cover at all, leaving the owners at risk of huge costs should it be damaged by flood or fire.

RIAS also recently reported that many homes are underinsured as contents, including gold jewellery, have not been valued properly.
