Students have been urged to consider taking out home insurance cover, Which4U reports.
A study published by Endsleigh has revealed that students take around £4,000 worth of goods with them to university.
Further to this, the research claimed that students are often carrying around over a third of these goods with them around campus.
In fact, some 93 per cent of students take mobile phones with them when they go to university, while almost three quarters - 73 per cent - leave with their mp3 players in their baggage.
Last week, meanwhile, home insurance customers were warned that the number of injuries sustained from poor home improvements is set to increase.
Michael Holmes, spokesperson for the National Home Improvement Show, explained that this is because homeowners are seeking to save money during the financial downturn.
He added that many accidents are caused by the misuse of power tools, while some homeowners that attempt DIY are often over ambitious and overestimate their level of skill.
Fraudulent home insurance claims were most common in 2009, says ABI
