A leading home insurance provider has warned holidaymakers to take measures to secure their homes this summer .
According to a poll conducted by MS Money, more than half of people will leave their properties empty while they are away.
Further to this, more than two-thirds of Brits (69 per cent) plan to go away from home for at least one night during August.
Many householders revealed they will leave older children or relatives behind to look after the house, while 51 per cent said that they will leave the property empty.
Andrew Ferguson, MS head of general insurance, commented: With August being one of the most popular months for people to go away, we would urge homeowners to take appropriate steps to ensure their home is secure while they enjoy their holidays .
He added it is important that security measures you take are in line with the terms and conditions of your policy.
Earlier this week, the Post Office warned Brits that their home insurance policies are threatened by partying A-level and GCSE students over the coming weeks.
