Britons have been urged not to assume that standard home insurance policies will provide adequate cover for their home .
This follows research conducted by MoneySupermarket which revealed that one in ten households made a claim on their home insurance policy last year.
The study, however, found that standard policies did not necessarily include all the cover details a household may need in the event a claim was made, such as accidental damage .
Julie Owens, head of home insurance at MoneySupermarket, commented: The most important thing to consider when buying home insurance is what type of cover will suit your circumstances.
Last week, MoneySupermarket revealed that people in London are the most likely in the UK to make a claim for theft on their home insurance policy.
Indeed, the study found that London held ten of the top 20 postcode districts most likely to have made a claim for theft, an increase of 100 per cent on the previous year.
