A representative for home insurance provider AA Insurance has said that, despite price hikes, household cover is still good value for money.
In the last quarter, the average price for annual buildings insurance policy rose by 50p and the average home contents insurance rose by £3 in the last year, according to the AA British Insurance Premium Index.
Simon Douglas, director of the home insurance provider, has said that these rises were caused by stricter standards for new house building as well as the upturn in claims for property damage through the harsh winter.
However, he added: "Despite the upward premium trend, there are still good insurance deals to be done and brokers such as AA Insurance are well placed to offer them."
Association of British Insurers research recently revealed that 55,000 false home insurance claims were made last year, costing cover providers £110 million in undeserved payouts.
