Halifax Home Insurance found that, on average, two-thirds of British people experience regional pride, with 47 per cent of those putting it down to how safe their area is.
Some 73 per cent of north-east residents responding to the bank's Home Insurance Peace of Mind survey said that they feel proud of their region.
Brits also prefer to stay at home rather than go out, according to the report, which found that 65 per cent of respondents would rather spend time indoors than going to the local pub.
Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "Being able to enjoy your home and surroundings is a hugely important factor, so we urge people to be aware of taking every step possible to ensure their homes and families are well protected."
