Home insurance customers are being urged to makes things as hard as possible for burglars.
Superintendent Chris Moon, of Surrey Police, has explained that as the weather improves more criminals will be on the prowl and so home insurance customers need to be prepared.
He advised people to keep valuable items out of view and take steps to ensure their property is as secure as possible.
Burglary is, on the whole, an opportunist crime. If thieves are scouting for potential targets and see an easy access point to your home they will take advantage of it, Superintendent Moon said.
Home insurance customers should make sure that their property is not an easy target for passing criminals, he added.
Meanwhile, those looking to save money on their home insurance might be interested to know that Direct Line is offering people 12 months' cover for the price of ten in a promotion which runs until the end of April.
