With the vinyl seven-inch single celebrating its 60th birthday this month, those with a love for records should make sure they are protected under their home insurance .
Despite sales for music downloads continually increasing, new bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Girls Aloud and the White Stripes have prompted the sale of over one million seven-inch singles in Britain last year, as music-lovers return to the crackle and pops of the vinyl record .
Virgin Money has urged collectors to make sure their collections are protected under their home insurance from damage, loss or theft.
Grant Bather, spokesperson for Virgin Money, said: Vinyls need to be treated with care, and with many bands issuing special limited edition records it is well worth checking your insurance policy covers your music collection in case these vinyls rocket in value over the next few decades.
The company has urged vinyl-lovers to take out home insurance as well as taking measures to ensure that the vinyls are well looked after, including stacking them side by side and keeping them out of sunlight.
Surrey Police recently warned home insurance owners of an increase in the risk of burglary during the summer months.
