Home insurance provider Cheshire Building Society has said that those who leave garden furniture outdoors overnight during the summer should make sure they are covered.
With increased amounts of garden theft and damage occurring as people set to enjoy the warm weather outdoors, the bank has advised checking home insurance to see if items like patio furniture, trampolines and children's toys are included.
According to Cheshire Building Society, many people just assume that they are covered for these items when they take out a home insurance policy, but that may not be the case.
Karen Torson, product manager at the firm, said: "It's always great to enjoy the sunshine but it's better when you have peace of mind that if your plants or furniture in the garden should get damaged or go missing, they can be replaced."
Price comparison site Gocompare.com recently warned that one in four British people have suffered property theft or damage in their gardens .
