A financial advice website has encouraged households to look for the best home insurance policies to protect them from subsidence which may occur in the expected hot weather over the summer months.
The Met Office has predicted higher than average temperatures and low rainfall for the next few months and moneysupermarket.com said that home insurance policy holders should be aware of the risk of subsidence.
Cheap home insurance which protects properties against foundation instability caused by the ground drying out is available from as little as £78 from American Express and Admiral, according to the site.
Steve Sweeney, head of home insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: I urge homeowners to be as honest as possible and fully update their insurer if there are any signs of subsidence around their home .
Confused.com recently offered tips to homeowners worried that the British weather will not bring sunshine, advising up-to-date home insurance policies in the case of flooding .
