Those looking for cheap home insurance deals have a wide range of options open to them, but they must make sure they are suitable, according to moneysupermarket.com.
The price comparison site noted the home insurance discounts available from Tesco, Sainsburys, Churchill and Barclays at the moment, which include up to 50 per cent off some packages, reports the Financial Times.
But the website also advised customers to check the level of cover provided by the home insurance deals because high value items protection "varies widely".
Ian Crowder, a representative from AA Insurance, told the newspaper: "You can reduce your premium if you have a decent alarm system, are signed up to a registered neighbourhood watch scheme or if you have a five-lever mortise lock on the main exit of your property ."
Recent research by home insurance provider Halifax showed that one in ten households does not have cover for its valuable items.
