Households in the UK are choosing cheaper home insurance policies, which may not provide sufficient cover, in order to make sure they can still watch their Sky or cable TV shows, according to a new survey.
Carried out by Legal and General, the report showed that 28 per cent would seek out cheaper home insurance to relieve financial pressure during the recession, where only 14 per cent of households would give up their TV subscriptions.
Home insurance policyholders would also eschew eating out, shopping sprees, property improvement and holidays abroad before they would let go of their TV packages .
Garry Skelton, marketing director at Legal and General's general insurance business, said: "The majority of us are feeling the 'pinch'. So it's not surprising that searching around for cheaper home insurance is on the list of areas where we could cut back."
Moneysupermarket.com recently warned those looking for cheap home insurance deals that they must make sure they are suitable and not just go for the best bargain, according to the Financial Times.
