One home insurance firm has issued a list of the strangest claims it received during 2008.
Lloyds TSB Insurance has revealed it was contacted by a customer who had shot his television.
The home insurance customer in question refurbishes old guns and did not realise that the one he was holding at the time was loaded.
Other strange home insurance claims included the case of the man who had his spectacles stolen by a magpie.
Phil Loney, managing director of the firm, said: It's truly impossible to predict what's around the corner and whilst it's important to take sensible security, maintenance and safety steps, having a good insurance policy is vital to ensure long term peace of mind.
Yesterday, Churchill Home Insurance announced that it is offer consumers a discount of up to 25 per cent on cover if they switch to the firm.
People who have not claimed in the last five years could save up to 50 per cent on their home insurance with the firm.
