Which? slammed over insurance report

Consumer group Which? should stick to reviewing washing machines rather than car and home insurance comparison websites, according to one expert.

Hayley Parsons, chief executive of Gocompare.com, claimed that recent critical comments by the body about the way price comparison services deal with excesses for insurance quotes shows a lack of understanding of the matter.

She explained that car and home insurance firms often have a minimum amount people will have to pay in the event of a claim, the reason that the excess someone had put in sometimes differed from the one displayed, something Which? had criticised.

Our experience shows that customers can very quickly decide which combination of cover, excess and premium is right for them once they have been shown all the different options available, she said.

Last week, Liverpool Victoria announced it has added its home insurance policies to Gocompare.com's price comparison service .

The firm began offering its car insurance through the site last year.
