People should not rely on their home insurance to cover their belongings while they are on holiday in the UK, according to one expert.
Sam Marrs, travel insurance manager for Sainsbury's Finance, explained that although it is likely a home insurance policy would cover a loss under such circumstances, other problems might arise.
Many people also simply rely on their home insurance thinking their belongings will be covered if lost outside the home whilst on holiday but it's worth remembering there is probably a higher excess to pay, he said.
Having to use a home insurance policy under such circumstances will also impact on any no claims discount, Mr Marrs added.
Last week, Darren Black, head of home insurance at Confused.com, advised people to check the small print on their policy to make sure they know what they are covered for.
He also advised people keep their property secure to avoid the risk of invalidating their home insurance.
