Households hoping to avoid claiming on their home insurance this winter should make sure that they take the necessary steps to avoid a boiler breakdown.
According to Confused.com, plummeting temperatures in recent weeks have served as a warning that central heating systems need to be looked after in order to keep homes warm.
Darren Black, head of home insurance at Confused.com, said: Winter is the time when all homeowners want to have nice and cosy homes to use for some respite from the cold and wet elements associated with winter.
He added that preventative measures – wrapping outside taps with insulation to avoid burst pipes and clearing gutters of leaves – will be better than having to deal with a home insurance provider when something goes wrong.
The Independent recently recommended that households hoping to get through the winter without having to claim on their home insurance should first check that their policies cover damage by potential bad weather which may strike their region.
