List of riskiest towns for burglary revealed

New research has revealed that households in London and Nottingham are the most likely to have to claim on their home insurance following a burglary of theft .

Conducted by moneysupermarket.com, the study found that people in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, made more claims on their home insurance after experiencing a break in over the past year.

Five London towns made the top 20, including Clapham, Hornsey, Walthamstow, Fulham and Forest Hill.

People in Leicester, West Bridgford in Nottingham, Ellesmere Port on the Wirral and Roundhay in Leeds will also be more likely to have to find their home insurance details as they filled out the top five.

Julie Owens, head of home insurance at moneysupermarket.com, said: Homeowners need to be extra vigilant when it comes to security for their homes . You never know when an opportunistic thief may strike.

Recent research by home insurance provider Halifax showed that 14 per cent of homeowners fear their property being burgled.
