Home insurance could save students looking to take their bike to use at university this September some money in the case of theft, according to one firm.
Marks and Spencer Money research shows that almost a quarter of all cyclists at university have been the victim of bike theft and it has encouraged those who got the A-level results they wanted last week to take out home insurance .
While 22 per cent of those surveyed by the company said they had experienced bike theft, only 16 per cent have taken the step of getting their two-wheeler covered under a home insurance policy .
Steve Price, head of general insurance for Marks and Spencer, said: Unfortunately bikes are a prime target for thieves and cyclists should take basic security steps to decrease the risk of becoming a victim.
Recent research by home insurance provider More Than found that residents of Liverpool are the most honest and trustworthy when walking past an unattended bike.
