One expert has warned that with burglaries on the rise in summer months, households should make sure their property is covered if the worst happens while they are out of the country.
Writing for the Daily Mail, personal finance editor Jo Thornhill claimed that insurers are advising any holidaymakers to update their home insurance policies in order to avoid heartache.
Property owners may see a slight rise in their premiums if they want to get the whole house covered under contents and building cover, but Ms Thornhill claims this is a small financial pain compared to what could happen if home insurance is neglected.
She added: Most insurers ask for individual items to be specified if they are worth more than £1,500, with a maximum usually between £20,000 and £25,000, depending on the insurer .
Home insurance provider Halifax recently said that property owners are being lax when it comes to securing their house and its contents, despite an increase in burglary cases.
