The British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has praised the introduction of the flood and water management bill, which will maintain home insurance availability in case of such an event.
Pertaining to a major manifesto aim for the organisation, the bill will help decide blame in home insurance cover claims.
Biba has said that the government should continue to follow the recommendations of Sir Michael Pitt with regards to climate change to ensure that home insurance remains affordable and to reduce the occurrence of freak weather.
Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive for the group, said: "Biba will, on behalf of its members, continue to promote access to flood insurance through its expert members who have a wealth of knowledge and experience."
Recent research by Virgin Money Home Insurance found that the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea was the safest in Britain based on risk of flooding, burglary and criminal damage.
