Increased security measures have helped cut caravan thefts by half, it is being claimed, which could have an effect on mobile home insurance .
The National Caravan Council maintains the use of more advanced security measures have accounted for a drop in thefts by more than half.
It revealed electronic tagging and the use of a nationwide caravan database have boosted the police's efforts to tackle the problem.
Louise Wood, director of communications for the council, said that after the security of cars was improved there was a time when caravans were a soft target.
Ms Wood added that built-in security features, following the 1992 Caravan Registration Scheme, particularly the immobiliser have resulted in insurance discounts.
"Some insurance companies offer discounts when . security products are fitted; also some insurance companies specifically ask for CRiS registration from those seeking a quotation," she explained.
