Amateur sports enthusiasts should check to see if their home insurance policy covers them for any injuries they might inflict on fellow players, according to one expert.
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure home insurance, states that sporting activities are turning into spawning grounds for personal liability claims .
Although such claims are relatively rare, when they do happen they are often for large sums of money and are very serious, Mr Pickard explains.
In the case of sports injuries, home contents cover may be the only safety net between an individual and a six or seven figure claim against their assets, he says.
This is why it is so people vital check their home insurance to see if it includes such cover, Mr Pickard adds.
Recently, Saga Home Insurance warned new students to make sure they secure their belongings to reduce the chance of them falling victim to theft .
