Home insurance warning over bad weather

People who expect to be hit by bad weather should take every precaution they can, according to one home insurance firm .

Speaking after heavy rain fell across much of the country over the weekend, Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager for Halifax Home Insurance, explained as storm damage can cost thousands people should take what steps they can.

"It certainly makes sense for homeowners to take whatever preventative steps they can at this stage to reduce the risk of damage to their homes," he said.

After the storm has passed, people should check to see what damage has been inflicted on their home and arrange for the necessary repairs, Mr Foulds added.

Keeping a property in good condition is a requirement of most home insurance policies., Mr Foulds stated.

Recently, the Guardian reported comments by Peter Gerrard, spokesperson for price comparison website Moneysupermarket.com, who suggested that people who often throw parties should consider adding accidental damage cover to their home insurance policy .
