Students in Manchester and Birmingham are the most likely to be burgled, one home insurance firm has warned.
Research carried of by Liverpool Victoria (LV) reveals the two cities topped the break-in table for the period between July 2007 and July 2008.
According to Emma Holyer, spokes person for LV car and home insurance, students should make sure they are covered before they head off.
"Some home insurers include cover for students going off to university, so parents should check their documents to see if their policy includes this cover, otherwise a separate policy can be taken out," she said.
Students living in Durham and Lancaster are least likely to be broken into, she added.
Recently, Graeme Trudgill, spokesperson for the British Insurance Brokers' Association, told the Observer people often underestimate how much it will cost them to replace their belongings.
For this reason, he stated, it is vital to take out a home insurance policy .
