Home insurance firm looks to highlight security

Thu, 18 Sep 2008

One house insurance firm is looking to increase awareness of home security issues, it has been revealed.

Legal and General are conducting an annual online survey which will ask home insurance customers for their views on security and safety.

Elaine Parkes, head of technical services for the firm, explained that the overall aim of the project is to improve awareness on the matter and to help people understand their home insurance policies .

She said: "Installing an intruder alarm, good quality locks and security lighting or living in a Neighbourhood Watch area can all help to deter a burglar entering a person's home ."

These measures could also mean people are eligible for a discount in their home insurance, she added.

Yesterday, Insurance Daily reported that Marsh is set to launch a new home insurance policy which will provide extra cover for people who are currently renovating their property .

The product will cover both the householder and contractor.
