Those who have been hit by flooding could see a large rise in the excess on their home insurance policy, it has been reported.
Geoff and Jane Hawkins, who live in Fairford, were hit by last summer's down pours and now face paying out £5,000 if they are forced to claim on their home insurance policy again, reports the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard.
The previous excess they had to pay when making a home insurance claim was £50.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mrs Hawkins said: "The house had never flooded before in 50 years of existence. Now when it rains heavily it makes you very edgy - you have to live with the uncertainty."
Although the rise in their home insurance premium was expected, the change in the excess was "a bit of a shock", she added.
Yesterday, home insurance firm Legal and General announced it is to conduct a national survey aimed at highlighting the issues safety and security.
