Home insurance warning over liability cover

Thu, 09 Oct 2008

People should make sure their home insurance covers them for any accidents people visiting their property might have, according to one expert.

Jeremy Moll, insurance expert at comparethemarket.com, explained this is particularly important for those who have cleaners, builders or child minders working in their home .

He said: "The majority of insurers include building and contents liability cover as standard on their insurance policies . Typical payouts are up to £2,000,000 for personal liability and £5,000,000 for employee liability."

Personal liability applies to accidents involving things such as friends tripping over a carpet, while employee liability relates to accidents which befall those working in a house, the home insurance expert added.

Recently, a study by Confused.com found home insurance customers can save £196 a year by switching to a best-buy deal.

According to the firm many people are wasting money because they just accept the renewal quote from their current home insurance provider .
