Fans of music and film should keep track of their collection of downloads, according to one home insurance firm .
According to Virgin Money, the boom in legally accessing entertainment content via the internet could leave people with valuable items which are not covered by their home insurance .
Grant Bather, spokesperson at Virgin Money, said: "More people are choosing to download music and films and as such, their computer will have a lot of information on it that if stolen, could be lost forever."
People who have such content saved on their PC should look at taking out a home insurance product which covers the loss of such things, he added.
Last week, Comparethemarket.com warned that people in the UK are losing up to £10 million every year because they do not have a home insurance policy which covers their garden .
According to the firm, more than a quarter of people lack such cover .
