Home insurance warning over garden items

UK citizens are losing up to £10 million a year by not having a home insurance policy which offers adequate cover for their gardens, it has been claimed.

Research by Comparethemarket.com reveals that more than a quarter of British household do not have a home insurance policy which covers garden furniture, expensive barbecues and plants.

Jeremy Moll, insurance expert at the price comparison website, said: "It is easy to just focus on possessions within the home, but it's important to remember that household insurance policies can cover garden plants and furniture as well."

Even if money is tight, people should not take risks and make sure they are fully covered by their home insurance policy, he added.
