People should be taking more steps to protect their belongings as the recession bites, according to one home insurance firm .
Thierry Campet, sales and marketing director at Abbey Home Insurance, explained that burglaries increase during tough economic times.
For this reason, people should make sure that they have enough home insurance in place, he stated.
During these times, protection is increasingly important and should not be overlooked, Mr Campet said.
People might be tempted to try and save money by cutting back on their home insurance but this would be a false economy, he added.
Home insurance customers should also consider upgrading to a deal which offers unlimited cover, as otherwise all their belongings might not be protected, Mr Campet suggested.
Yesterday, Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure home insurance, advised people to make sure their home insurance policy covers the Christmas gifts they buy.
Anyone purchasing items worth more than £1,500 will need to make sure they are listed separately on their home insurance, he explained.
