Anyone jetting off for their winter sun should make sure check the details of their home insurance policy before they do so, according to one expert.
Darren Black, home insurance expert at Confused.com, explained that most policies feature a clause which states that properties should not be unoccupied for more than 30 days.
This means that it is vital for home insurance customers planning a long trip to ensure someone stays in their house to look after it, Mr Black stated.
He said: It is important for anyone flying south for winter to spend a couple of minutes ensuring that their nests are well and truly protected.
People should also avoid doing things like changing their Facebook status to reflect the fact they are on holiday as this can act as an open invitation to burglar, Mr Black added.
Meanwhile, those looking for a better deal on home insurance might be interested to know that Tesco is offering a 50 per cent discount to anyone who obtains a quote before January 7th.
