People who operate their own small business might find that their home insurance policy does not cover them, one expert has warned.
According to Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, those who run a firm from their home, or even just work there from time-to-time, might need special cover.
He said: "If workers are unsure of their policy, they should check with their insurance company . A regular home insurance policy may not cover for various work materials and computers ."
People should consider using the time they save on commuting to and from work to check with their home insurance company to see if they are covered or not, Mr Loney added.
Yesterday, Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, warned that people should check to see if they have sufficient cover for any expensive items of jewellery they own.
He recommended people get such items valued so their home insurance policy can accurately reflect the cost of replacing them.
