Parents without adequate home insurance cover could struggle to replace expensive children's toys , it has been claimed.
Research by Halifax Home Insurance reveals that thieves stole £308 million worth of play-things and other equipment from families with kids under five last year.
David Rochester, head of underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance, advised parents to make sure they are protected against the financial impact of such acts.
He said: "Parents can protect themselves from the financial costs of theft, if not the psychological impact, by investing in comprehensive home insurance cover."
Such home insurance policies can also cover the cost of replacing items taken from their garden or a public place, he added.
Taking out insurance will mean that parents do not have to spend their hard earned cash on replacing often expensive items, Mr Rochester stated.
Earlier this week, the Daily Telegraph warned that people who are thinking about taking on DIY projects should check with their home insurance company to see what they are covered for before they start work.
