Britons have billions of pounds worth of jewellery stashed in boxes and people must make sure that there home insurance covers their valuables, new research indicates.
The study, conducted by Halifax Home Insurance, found that Brits have £52 billion worth of jewellery.
However, it also found that 35 per cent of people have not had their items valued, raising the prospect that their home insurance might not cover the belongings.
Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, said: It seems many people with expensive jewellery collections may be selling themselves short by not getting their articles valued fully and insured for the correct amount.
People who regularly wear expensive items when they are out and about should make sure that they are covered by their home insurance in the event that the items are lost, stolen or damaged.
Yesterday, writing for Fool.co.uk, Serena Cowdy, claimed that a recent fall in the cost of home insurance means that now is a good time to take out a policy.
