People heading away on holiday should take steps to ensure their property is not burgled, one home insurance firm warns.
Karen Torson, partnerships business manager at Cheshire Building Society, explained that there are steps people can take to help make sure that they do not have to make a home insurance claim when they return from a trip.
Simple steps such as cancelling milk and paper deliveries as well as making sure all windows and doors are locked will help deter thieves, she said.
People can also get a home insurance policy that is tailored to their needs, Ms Torson added.
"With an adequate policy in place, you can have a little less anxiety about the security of your property and belongings," she stated.
Last week, Andrew Lowe, head of Direct Line home insurance, warned that people living in rented accommodation should make sure that they have adequate cover for their belongings.
