Home insurance warning for DIYers

Tue, 27 May 2008

Anyone planning to undertake a major DIY project needs to make sure that they are covered by their home insurance policy, one expert has warned.

Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Kara Gammell explains that people who engage in such projects could end up losing money, rather than saving it if things go wrong.

She advised people to check with their home insurance company before starting work in order to check what level of cover they have.

Ms Gammell said: "Checking with your insurer is the best way to ensure that you are protecting yourself from unforeseen costs when taking on DIY projects.

"Homeowners must find out what is already covered within their policy and take out extra cover for anything not already included."

Last week, Churchill Home Insurance stated that having a policy in place can give people peace of mind as they know they will be able to replace items if they are burgled.
