Britons are being urged to ensure that the contents of their gardens are adequately covered by their insurance company.
According to moneysupermarket.com, garden cover can often cost from between £250 to £1,500, depending on which provider homeowners take out cover with.
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at the company, said: All providers differ on what is and isn't included within your cover for gardens - and the amounts.
While lawnmowers and barbecues can be easy targets for thieves, those with landscaped gardens and expensive plants ought to make sure that their insurance policies provide enough cover, Mr Gerrard stated.
The expert also advised people not leave items on show, to make sure that their sheds are locked and to install a security light .
Insurance provider esure recently noted that over one in ten homeowners plan to spend more than £500 on their gardens this year, yet many people are failing to protect their possessions.
