The recent storms that have hit the UK have prompted a huge rise in the number of home insurance related calls, one firm has said.
Abbey stated that the volume of calls from people enquiring about home insurance doubled during the period and claims increased by over 55 per cent.
The home insurance firm says that this is the highest volume of calls it has received since the summer 2007 floods.
Abbey advised people to keep their home insurance documents in a watertight container and have the number of their insurance firm close at hand in case of an emergency.
Meanwhile, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) said that some of its members will already have started contacting policy holders in the worst hit areas.
Speaking to the Guardian, spokesman for the ABI, said: Insurers will be contacting customers and saying that they know they are in the eye of the storm, as it were, and offering them help with their claim.
